5 Years of youtube
I’ll start by saying I never intended for this to happen; this wasn’t part of the plan. Do I enjoy it, I must say resoundingly, yes! Is it income sustainable, absolutely not.
I’ve been on the YouTube platform making hobby related videos, mainly battle reports, for five years now. The time I’ve spent with my son and friends making the content has been incredible. Things do start to wane, however.
I’ve done well to keep things fresh by offering a variety of content. Each time I check my channel and see the growth it’s a small dopamine hit that makes me want more. So, I find myself pushing. In what was a normal weekend hobby session has become something every night. Whether planning the next game, playing it or frantically painting miniatures for something in the future.
I want to do more and I’ve even looked at hiring commission painters to help me out with my backlog. Then I have to take a step back. I have to bring myself back to reality. This isn’t my job. While I’ve found so much joy in seeing the channel grow I realize that I’m a niche channel in a niche hobby.
Whatever the future brings I’m very thankful for the journey. At some point I will need to slow down, however, and eventually this old man will need to take a rest. Maybe I’ll look back on this post in five more years and say, “that was funny.” I do wish to say thank you for being here and for making all of this possible.
