The old world is a blast!
I made a video a few weeks ago about returning to my childhood. It took 30 years but everything finally came full circle and I played a game of Warhammer: The Old World, or Warhammer Fantasy as I knew it. I played the mighty Bretonnians against the Wood Elf Realms and I had so much fun. I actually made a battle report of the game which is also on the channel.
With the new addition of Battle March, a format where 500-750 point games are perfectly acceptable, I found new life in a project I had long pushed off. For what it is worth, I really enjoyed the game mechanics. The potential to fail a charge, getting routed in combat to turn tail and flee and being overran, it all just felt really good.
Add in the scene of bowmen taking the hill to rain arrows down on my opponent, cavalry lining up in lance formation to charge into enemy lines and my stalwart men-at-arms holding ground with their shield wall. It all made for such a pleasant experience. My opponent was also very gracious and did a fantastic job teaching me the rules.
So what’s next regarding The Old World? Well, I plan on expanding my forces to 750 points and introducing more factions. I have painted High Elf Realms that I can convert from Kings of War back to square bases. I also want to do something with the Undead, whether that be Vampire Counts or Tomb Kings. At 500-750 points there’s just so much to explore.
You will definitely be seeing more of The Old World on the channel. I’ve had a taste of something I really enjoy and there will be more coming in the future.
